I must confess that upon reflection, I am very fortunate to live in the times that we do. I have experienced and followed Apple Computer to have become Apple Inc.; seen the launch of the multicoloured iMacs in 1998 that began an innovative “i-revolution”, experienced Mac OSX, used iPods, seen iTunes Music Store cross the first billionth songs in 2006, been to an opening of an Apple Store in the UK, used iPhones and iPads, and followed MacWorld and later Apple’s Keynotes. What I am trying to convey is that I am grateful to have felt what it meant (and still means) to be a Mac fan.
The best of course were the iconic and Apple-crazy Keynotes with Steve Jobs! I remember fondly each year awaiting for the Keynote link on Apple’s website to be published, avoiding any spoilers and refraining from checking any announcements on Macrumors, sitting comfortably with “sugared water” from a major multinational company, firmly clutched in hand and popcorn warm and within arms length; ready to be captivated by the thrill, awe, and excitement of watching the charismatic Steve Jobs enter with standing ovations in his black turtleneck sweater, Levi’s jeans and New Balance sneakers. And of course nothing ever beat the suspense of “one more thing”.
What a wonderful experience that was; to be a part of it; to experience it; to feel it. Even though I was in a different country thousands of miles away streaming online, geography didn’t matter, nationality didn’t matter, because for that precise moment; those on average 12o min of awe-inspiring streaming, I felt what it was to be an American, to be a Mac fan, sharing the dream of a brilliant innovative tech company that touched the hearts of many; a company that made computers personal and fun again!
In memory of Steve Jobs – a visionary whose products touched the lives of many over the world. Thank you for bestowing such a wonderful gift to the world!
